Overview

The vacuolar protein sorting 53 homolog pseudogene (ENSG00000264193) is a non-functional DNA sequence in the human genome that shares sequence similarity with the protein-coding VPS53 gene but does not encode a protein. Pseudogenes result from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accumulate mutations that prevent them from producing functional protein products. The functional VPS53 gene encodes a component of the Golgi-associated retrograde protein (GARP) complex, which is involved in endosomal protein sorting and transport to the trans-Golgi network[3]. However, this pseudogene form does not have a known biological role, is not a drug target, and is not directly related to human disease.
