Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 26C (VPS26C) is a protein that acts as a component of retriever or commander protein complexes, which are essential for the endosomal recycling of transmembrane cargos[11][1]. VPS26C is located in the Down syndrome critical region of chromosome 21 and is widely expressed in human tissues[1]. It functions by coupling to SNX17 and collaborating with the CCC complex to recycle proteins such as integrin alpha-5/beta-1, thereby maintaining homeostasis of cell surface proteins[1][11]. Human VPS26C contributes significantly to molecular features associated with Down syndrome and may be relevant for certain cancers, but it is not a known direct drug target and has no associated interacting drugs documented in public databases[1][6][11].
