Vacuole membrane protein 1 pseudogene (ENSG00000278684) is a genomic DNA segment that shares sequence homology with the functional vacuole membrane protein 1 gene but does not encode a functional protein product. By definition, pseudogenes are sequences that arise through gene duplication or retrotransposition events, accumulate disabling mutations, and generally lack transcriptional activity or capacity to be translated into functional proteins[1][4].
