The vaginal immune microenvironment is a complex and dynamic ecosystem within the female lower reproductive tract, consisting of the mucosal epithelium, resident immune cells (such as T cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells), and a commensal microbiome typically dominated by Lactobacillus species.
