Overview

The gastric branch of the vagus nerve is an anatomical, not molecular, entity comprising parasympathetic nerve fibers derived from the tenth cranial nerve (vagus nerve) specifically innervating the stomach. It carries both afferent fibers (conveying sensory information from the stomach to the brain) and efferent fibers (providing motor/secretomotor input to the gastric musculature and glands), and is central to the neural regulation of gastric motility, secretion of gastric acid, and integration of "rest and digest" functions. This branch is not a druggable molecular target like a receptor or enzyme but has profound effects on digestion, gastric disorders (such as gastroparesis), and the neuro-immune interface in the gut
