Varicella-zoster virus DNA polymerase

Molecular classification
Enzyme, DNA polymerase
01

Overview

Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) DNA polymerase is a key viral enzyme responsible for replicating the VZV genome during infection. It is essential for viral replication and the production of infectious progeny. The enzyme consists of a catalytic subunit (ORF28) and an accessory/processivity factor (ORF16). Its activity is inhibited by antiviral drugs like acyclovir, making it a prime target for treating VZV infections.
