However, the umbrella term lacks the specificity needed for rigorous database entries, as it encompasses diverse molecular entities with distinct structures and functions across viral families. Drugs targeting these proteins face challenges such as off-target effects and the development of resistance through viral mutation. For concrete pharmacological targeting, individual proteins like "RNA-dependent RNA polymerase" or "viral 3CL protease" should be named explicitly.
