Overview

“Various wound bacteria” refers to the polymicrobial populations of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria frequently isolated from acute and chronic wounds[1]. Common constituents include Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacteriaceae (e.g., Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Escherichia coli), Streptococcus species, anaerobes such as Bacteroides, Prevotella, and Peptostreptococcus, as well as, less frequently, fungi (e.g., Candida species)[1][2]. These organisms can form robust biofilms that protect against antibiotics, impede wound healing, trigger inflammation, and contribute to tissue necrosis. The clinical term “various wound bacteria” cannot be mapped to a defined molecular target, and microbiological identification is performed at the genus or species level to guide therapeutic interventions[1][2].
