Vascular embolization

01

Overview

Vascular embolization is a minimally invasive procedure performed by interventional radiologists to intentionally block blood flow in a vessel, usually to treat vascular abnormalities, tumors, aneurysms, or trauma. The procedure involves inserting a catheter into the vascular system and delivering embolic agents (such as coils, particles, glue, or chemical agents) to the target vessel to induce occlusion. The goal is to exclude abnormal or problematic vasculature from circulation, control bleeding, or deprive tumors of blood supply. Vascular embolization is not a molecular drug target or receptor, but rather a therapeutic intervention that utilizes physical or chemical means for vessel occlusion[1][3][6].
