Vascular endothelial cell injury pathway

Molecular classification
Other (Pathway/process, not a molecular target)
01

Overview

The vascular endothelial cell injury pathway encompasses a complex array of signaling networks and cellular responses that result in damage to the endothelium, the inner lining of blood vessels. Key mechanisms include oxidative stress (OS), inflammation (often mediated by NF-κB, NLRP3, and PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling), mitochondrial dysfunction, and immune activation. These processes contribute to pathologies such as atherosclerosis, microvascular complications of diabetes, and other chronic vascular diseases. Repair and dysfunction of the endothelium fundamentally affect vascular integrity, tissue perfusion, and the progression of multisystem disease. Because this pathway does not correspond to a single molecular entity or druggable target, but rather integrates many, it is not classified as a canonical therapeutic target.
