Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF)

Target
VEGF
Molecular classification
Growth Factor, Cytokine, Secreted Glycoprotein
01

Overview

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is a family of secreted glycoproteins that regulate vasculogenesis, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis. VEGF-A is the most studied isoform. VEGFs function as homodimers and bind to tyrosine kinase receptors (VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, VEGFR-3) to induce endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and survival, increasing vascular permeability. Dysregulation of the VEGF pathway is implicated in tumor growth and ocular diseases. Anti-VEGF therapies target the ligand or its receptors to inhibit abnormal vessel growth or reduce vascular leakage. Serum concentrations can be elevated in conditions such as bronchial asthma or diabetes mellitus.
