Overview
Vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) is a dimeric glycoprotein and a key member of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family. It is the main inducer of blood vessel formation and plays a central role in both physiological and pathological angiogenesis. Overexpression is associated with tumor progression and diseases like diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration. Anti-VEGF therapies are used to inhibit tumor angiogenesis and manage eye diseases.

Mechanism of action
VEGF-A binds to VEGFR-1 (Flt-1) and VEGFR-2 (KDR/Flk1) tyrosine kinase receptors on endothelial cells, stimulating their proliferation, migration, and survival, and promoting angiogenesis.
