01

Overview

Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), also known as KDR (Kinase insert domain receptor) or Flk1 (Fetal liver kinase 1), is a type IV transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase that serves as a principal high-affinity receptor for vascular endothelial growth factors, especially VEGF-A. It is essential for angiogenesis, vascular permeability, and cell survival/proliferation, making it a key target for anti-cancer therapies and other diseases characterized by abnormal vessel proliferation or function.

Mechanism of action

Inhibition of KDR suppresses tumor growth by blocking neovascularization; neutralizing antibodies against KDR increase apoptosis within tumors.
