Target intelligence / Profile preview
Vascular nitric oxide (NO) synthesis refers to the enzymatic production of nitric oxide within blood vessels, primarily by endothelial cells. NO is a critical signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system, mediating vasodilation, inhibiting platelet aggregation, exerting anti-inflammatory effects, and preventing smooth muscle proliferation. The primary enzyme responsible is endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), which converts L-arginine to NO using various cofactors. Impaired NO synthesis contributes to endothelial dysfunction and cardiovascular diseases.
Enhancement of nitric oxide production via substrate or cofactor supplementation; antioxidant protection of eNOS function.
