Vascular smooth muscle cell contraction is the process by which the diameter of blood vessels is regulated, controlling blood flow and pressure. This process involves multiple signaling pathways, including calcium-dependent and calcium-independent mechanisms, which converge on the phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of myosin light chains to regulate actin-myosin crossbridge cycling.
