Vascular tissue is a complex plant tissue system composed of two main tissue types: xylem and phloem. Xylem is responsible for transporting water and minerals throughout the plant, while phloem transports sugars and other organic nutrients. These tissues are made up of multiple cell types, including conducting cells (tracheary elements in xylem and sieve elements in phloem) and supporting cells. It is not considered a therapeutic target in the context of human biotech/pharmaceuticals because it exists exclusively in plants, is a complex tissue system rather than a discrete molecular entity (like a receptor, enzyme, or protein), and there are no drugs designed to interact with plant vascular tissue for human therapeutic purposes.
