Vasculogenic Mimicry Formation

Overview

Vasculogenic mimicry (VM) is a phenomenon observed in aggressive tumors where cancer cells form vascular-like channels and networks that facilitate blood supply to the tumor, independent of traditional angiogenesis. These tumor-derived channels can transport plasma and red blood cells, supporting rapid tumor growth and metastasis. The presence of VM correlates with poor prognosis: increased metastasis risk, higher tissue invasion rates, resistance to anti-angiogenic therapies, and overall worse patient survival outcomes.
