Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide Type II Receptor (VPAC2)

Target
VPAC2
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Class B GPCR, Secretin family receptor
01

Overview

VPAC2 is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP). It is involved in smooth muscle relaxation, exocrine/endocrine secretion, water/ion flux, immune modulation, circadian rhythm, and insulin secretion. It has been implicated in diseases such as schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, and gastric leiomyoma, and is a potential therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes.
