Vasopressin 1A Receptor (V1a)

Target
V1a
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The Vasopressin 1A receptor (V1aR), also known as AVPR1A, is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds arginine vasopressin. It is involved in vasoconstriction, social behavior modulation, and baroreflex regulation. It is highly expressed in the brain and peripherally in tissues like the liver, kidney, and blood vessels. Genetic variants are associated with differences in social communication traits and implicated in autism spectrum disorders and substance abuse vulnerability.

Mechanism of action

Activation leads primarily to rapid increases in cytosolic Ca²⁺ via Gq/11 signaling, activating phospholipase C pathway, leading to production of IP3 and DAG, mobilization of intracellular Ca²⁺, and activation of protein kinase C.
