Vault RNA 1-2 (VTRNA1-2) is a small non-coding RNA classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) belonging to the vault RNA family[1][2][4][6]. Vault RNAs are transcribed by RNA polymerase III and are found primarily in the cytoplasm associated with large ribonucleoprotein complexes called vaults[1][2][4]. The precise function of Vault RNA 1-2 remains unclear, but vault RNAs are thought to play roles in intracellular and nucleocytoplasmic transport, and may interact with proteins within or outside the vault complex[1][2]. Early studies have linked the methylation status and differential expression of vault RNAs to cellular processes such as stress response and potentially to disease states, including cancer, although direct mechanistic or clinical data for Vault RNA 1-2 specifically are lacking[3][5]. Vault RNA 1-2 is not currently considered a classic drug target, and there are no known drugs or biomarker applications associated with it[4][2].
