Its annotation is generally limited to genetic and genomic databases, and it should not be confused with the actual VDAC2 gene[5]. Clarification: VDAC2P2 is labeled a pseudogene in public gene resources. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but typically nonfunctional; thus, VDAC2P2 has no established biological or disease-related function and is not considered a drug target. If the intent was to refer to the functional "Voltage-dependent anion channel protein 2" (VDAC2), that is a valid mitochondrial membrane protein with broadly studied roles[1][2][3]. However, "VDAC2P2" specifically refers to a nonfunctional pseudogene[5].
