VENT homeobox pseudogene 5 (VENTXP5)

VENT homeobox pseudogene 5 (VENTXP5) is a retrotransposed pseudogene, derived from the VENTX homeobox gene family. Like other homeobox pseudogenes, VENTXP5 contains sequence similarity to functional homeobox genes (which encode DNA-binding transcription factors involved in development and differentiation), but VENTXP5 itself does not produce a functional protein product due to disabling mutations and the absence of necessary regulatory elements. It is not expressed as a functional molecule and has no known biological role, disease association, or therapeutic relevance. The pseudogene classification is supported by comparative genomics and the lack of protein-coding potential. There is no evidence that VENTXP5 is a functional therapeutic target, nor any indication it affects drug action or patient selection.
