Very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL cholesterol) refers to the cholesterol content carried by very low-density lipoproteins (VLDLs), which are lipoprotein particles produced by the liver. VLDLs primarily transport triglycerides from the liver to tissues. High VLDL cholesterol levels are a risk factor for cardiovascular disease due to their contribution to arterial plaque formation.
