Very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) synthesis is a critical hepatic process responsible for the assembly and secretion of VLDL particles, which transport endogenous triglycerides, cholesterol esters, and other lipids from the liver to peripheral tissues. The process involves triglyceride synthesis, apolipoprotein B100 translation and lipidation, and particle expansion within the endoplasmic reticulum.
