Vesicle-associated membrane protein 1 (VAMP1) is a SNARE protein essential for vesicle fusion, particularly in neurotransmitter release. Alternative splicing creates isoforms with different subcellular localizations, including VAMP-1A at synapses and VAMP-1B at mitochondria. It plays a key role in SNARE complex formation with syntaxins and SNAP25. Mutations are linked to congenital myasthenic syndrome, while expression levels may correlate with survival in certain cancers.
