Overview

Vesicle-trafficking protein SEC22b (SEC22B) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident SNARE protein that mediates membrane fusion events crucial for protein trafficking between the ER and Golgi apparatus. It associates with syntaxins and other SNARE proteins to form complexes that drive anterograde (ER to Golgi) and retrograde (Golgi to ER) vesicle transport, playing critical roles in secretion, antigen cross-presentation, secretory autophagy, and membrane expansion. SEC22B is required for platelet alpha-granule biogenesis and for the morphology of certain endothelial organelles, and its dysfunction has been implicated in neurodegeneration (Alzheimer’s disease), cancer progression, and infectious disease pathogenesis[1][2][3][4][5].
