Overview

VTI1BP3 is a processed pseudogene, or retrocopy, of the gene VTI1B. Retrocopies of protein-coding genes (also known as processed pseudogenes) are DNA segments derived from reverse-transcribed mRNA of their parental genes, and are inserted back into the genome. VTI1BP3 is located on a specific region of the genome in *Callithrix jacchus* (marmoset). It is not a functional protein-coding gene and does not encode a functional protein. The gene lacks any known biological function, disease association, or pharmacological relevance. Although some retrocopies may acquire regulatory roles, there is no evidence that VTI1BP3 has acquired any such function or clinical importance. Therefore, it is not considered a relevant therapeutic target for drug discovery or development. As a pseudogene, it does not produce functional RNA or protein products relevant to pharmacology or physiology, making it an incorrect and non-actionable therapeutic target. For pharmacological or disease-related analysis, its functional parental gene, VTI1B, or closely related SNARE proteins like VTI1A, should be considered instead.
