Vesicle transport through interaction with t-SNAREs homolog 1A (VTI1A) is a soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion protein-attachment receptor (SNARE) involved in intracellular membrane trafficking, primarily between endosomes and the trans-Golgi network. As a Qb-SNARE protein, VTI1A plays a critical role in vesicle generation and endosomal transport, partnering with several t-SNAREs such as syntaxin-6, syntaxin-13, syntaxin-16, and VAMP4. VTI1A is necessary for the proper formation and abundance of secretory and dense-core vesicles, influencing processes like hormone and neurotransmitter release via upstream mechanisms. Genetic variations in VTI1A have been linked to binocular function and susceptibility to certain cancers, particularly colorectal and lung cancer, usually via gene rearrangements with TCF7L2.
