Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) is an enveloped, negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the genus *Vesiculovirus* in the family *Rhabdoviridae*. VSV primarily affects livestock but can also infect swine, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, wildlife species, and occasionally humans. The disease it causes—vesicular stomatitis—is characterized by blister-like sores on the mouth, snout, teats, and feet of affected animals. The virus uses the G protein to attach to LDL receptor family members on host cells and the M protein plays a role in immune evasion by suppressing type I interferon responses. Transmission occurs mainly via biting insects. Disinfection can be achieved via several methods.
