Overview

VEZT pseudogene 1 (VEZTP1) is classified as a pseudogene related to the protein-coding gene VEZT (vezatin, adherens junctions transmembrane protein)[8]. Pseudogenes are generally characterized as genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are nonfunctional; they arise through duplication or retrotransposition events which introduce disabling mutations, preventing them from producing functional proteins[3][6]. VEZT pseudogene 1 is located on the X chromosome as a noncoding counterpart to the functional VEZT gene, which is itself located on chromosome 12, although the pseudogene does not encode a functional protein[2][5][8]. No evidence is available indicating that VEZT pseudogene 1 has a characterized biological function, clinical significance, or disease association. It is not considered a druggable target, receptor, or relevant to pharmacology at this time, and no interacting drugs, relevant mechanisms of action, or biomarkers are associated with it. VEZT pseudogene 1 is sometimes referred to by its gene locus or general pseudogene naming conventions as found in genetic databases[8].
