Target intelligence / Profile preview
The Vi capsular polysaccharide antigen is a surface-exposed, linear homopolymer found in the capsule of *Salmonella enterica* serovar Typhi. It is a key virulence factor, enabling evasion of phagocytosis and modulating immune responses via DC-SIGN interaction. It serves as the basis for subunit vaccines against typhoid fever, eliciting protective serum antibodies.
Vaccination induces anti-Vi antibodies, leading to opsonization and complement-mediated killing of *S. Typhi*.
