Vibrio cholerae O1 Ogawa Antigen (O1 Ogawa Antigen)

Target
O1 Ogawa Antigen
Molecular classification
Lipopolysaccharide, Polysaccharide, Bacterial Antigen, O-antigen
01

Overview

The Vibrio cholerae O1 Ogawa antigen is a serotype-specific component of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) found on the surface of V. cholerae bacteria. It is a crucial determinant for virulence, phage binding, and immune recognition. The key structural difference between Ogawa and Inaba serotypes lies in the presence of a methyl group on the terminal perosamine residue of the Ogawa antigen. It does not represent a therapeutic target but it is an important molecule for cholera infection.
