Target intelligence / Profile preview
Vimentin is a type III intermediate filament protein predominantly expressed in mesenchymal cells. It provides structural support and maintains cellular integrity. It is involved in cell adhesion, migration/motility, plasticity, mechanosensing/transduction pathways, contractility, inflammatory responses, and tissue regeneration. Vimentin overexpression or abnormal regulation has been linked to cancer progression/metastasis, autoimmune diseases, and infectious diseases. It is considered a potential therapeutic target due to its role in cell motility/invasion/adhesion/remodeling processes.
