Vinblastine

Overview

Vinblastine is a structurally complex dimeric indole alkaloid isolated from the Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus). As a drug, it inhibits microtubule formation in dividing cells by binding to tubulin, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. It is used as a chemotherapeutic agent in the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, testicular cancer, breast cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, neuroblastoma, and several other cancers. Vinblastine is not a biological target itself.
