Viral DNA Synthesis via Host Factor Modulation

Molecular classification
Protein-protein interaction, Host-virus interaction, Cellular pathway modulation
01

Overview

Viral DNA synthesis via host factor modulation refers to the process by which viruses manipulate host cellular proteins and pathways to facilitate the replication of their own DNA genomes. Viruses, being obligate intracellular parasites, rely on hijacking or modulating host factors to create a favorable environment for viral genome synthesis. This involves recruiting proviral host dependency factors (HDFs) and evading or inactivating host restriction factors (HRFs). Targeting these virus-host interactions is an emerging therapeutic strategy known as host-directed therapy, however, only those host targets whose inhibition does not severely disrupt normal cell function are considered viable drug targets.
