Viral Protein 35 (VP35)

Target
VP35
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Polymerase cofactor, Immune antagonist, Structural protein
01

Overview

VP35 is a multifunctional protein encoded by filoviruses, most notably the Ebola virus (EBOV). It plays critical roles in viral replication, immune evasion, and pathogenesis. VP35 is not an enzyme but acts as a cofactor and structural component within the viral machinery. It serves as a nonenzymatic component of the viral RNA synthesis machinery, suppresses host innate immune responses by inhibiting RIG-I signaling pathways, interferes with dendritic cell maturation, and suppresses RNA interference (RNAi).
