Viral thymidine kinase (TK) is an enzyme encoded by certain viruses, most notably members of the Herpesviridae family. It plays a crucial role in the viral life cycle by facilitating DNA synthesis through the phosphorylation of thymidine and activation of antiviral prodrugs such as acyclovir and ganciclovir.
