Viral tumor-associated antigens are proteins or glycoproteins of viral origin, expressed in tumor cells as a consequence of infection with oncogenic viruses. These antigens are recognized by the host immune system and may serve as targets for cancer immunotherapies such as vaccines, adoptive T cell therapy, or antibody-based approaches. The actual antigens are highly variable and correspond to specific viral proteins from different viruses (e.g., HPV E6/E7, EBV LMP1), which may contribute to oncogenesis by disrupting host cell cycle regulation, avoiding immune detection, or promoting abnormal cell growth.
