Virus-infected cell presenting cytomegalovirus antigens (CMV-infected cell)

Target
CMV-infected cell

Host cell, Infected cell

Overview

Virus-infected cells presenting cytomegalovirus (CMV) antigens are host cells that have been infected by human cytomegalovirus and display viral peptides on their surface, primarily via major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules. These presented antigens are recognized by the immune system, particularly T cells, which mount a response to control or eliminate the infection. The most frequently recognized CMV proteins include Glycoprotein B (gB) and Phosphoprotein 65 (pp65), which serve as dominant targets for both antibody responses and cellular immunity.
