Virus-infected cells presenting adenovirus antigens are host cells that have been infected by adenoviruses and subsequently display viral antigens on their surface, primarily via the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I pathway. These presented antigens are recognized by the immune system, particularly cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), which target and eliminate infected cells to control infection. Adenoviruses have evolved immune evasion mechanisms, such as the E19 protein, which inhibits MHC class I presentation. These cells serve as key targets for vaccine development and cancer therapy using oncolytic or gene therapy vectors.
