A virus particle (virion) is the complete, infectious form of a virus outside a host cell, consisting of genetic material (DNA or RNA) surrounded by a protein capsid and, in some cases, a lipid envelope. Virucidal agents target these particles to prevent infection by disrupting their structure and rendering them non-infectious.
