Overview

Viscosity is not a molecule, receptor, or any specific biological target. Instead, it is a fundamental physical property of fluids (liquids and gases) that describes their resistance to flow[7][8][4]. Viscosity arises from the internal friction between layers of fluid as they move past one another and is determined by molecular interactions such as hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces, and ionic interactions[2][4]. It plays crucial roles in both natural processes (e.g., blood circulation) and industrial applications (e.g., lubrication, formulation of pharmaceuticals)[2][6]. In biological systems, abnormal viscosity can be associated with disease states but does not represent a druggable target or therapeutic entity[2]. Therefore, "viscosity" should not be considered a canonical molecular target for pharmacological intervention.
