Overview

"Visible light filtering" refers to the process of using physical or optical filters (such as coatings, filters in eyewear, or materials in windows) to block or attenuate selected wavelengths of visible light. Most commonly, filters are employed to reduce exposure to high-energy visible blue light (400–450 nm) due to concerns about its effects on biological tissues, such as disruption of circadian rhythm or potential retinal damage[7]. Filters may absorb, reflect, or interfere with specific light wavelengths to transmit only the desired portion of the visible spectrum while attenuating the rest[6]. The implementation of blue light filters is common in ophthalmic lenses, electronic display screens, and photographic equipment. However, "visible light filtering" is a physical or engineering concept, not a specific molecular entity or biological receptor, and thus is not considered a classical drug target or biochemical pathway component[5][6][7]. This concept should not be mapped as a canonical biological target; if a more specific molecular or protein target is intended (such as a specific opsin, photoreceptor, or chromophore involved in the biological response to visible light), clarification is needed.
