Vitamin A dimerization is a non-enzymatic chemical reaction in which two molecules of vitamin A (retinol or its derivatives) react together to form a dimer. The main byproduct is A2E, which accumulates in the RPE and contributes to lipofuscin formation and retinal degenerative diseases.
