Vitamin K epoxide reductase (VKOR)

Target
VKOR
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Reductase, Integral membrane protein
01

Overview

Vitamin K epoxide reductase (VKOR) is an integral membrane enzyme crucial for the vitamin K cycle. It catalyzes the reduction of vitamin K 2,3-epoxide and vitamin K to vitamin K hydroquinone, which is a necessary cofactor for the gamma-glutamyl carboxylation of specific proteins, most notably those involved in blood coagulation. VKOR is highly sensitive to inhibition by warfarin—the most widely prescribed oral anticoagulant.
