Vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1 (VKORC1) is an integral membrane protein and the catalytic subunit of the vitamin K epoxide reductase (VKOR) complex. It is essential for the vitamin K cycle, reducing vitamin K epoxide to its active hydroquinone form, which is required for activating blood-clotting factors. VKORC1 is the target of warfarin and other coumarin anticoagulants; genetic variations in VKORC1 significantly influence individual responses to these drugs.
