Vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1-like 1 pseudogene is a non-protein-coding DNA sequence similar to the functional VKORC1L1 gene[2]. Pseudogenes such as this one are remnants of gene evolution, usually arising from retrotransposition or gene duplication, and generally lack protein-coding capability due to disabling mutations[2]. While some pseudogenes can be transcribed and produce non-coding RNAs that may influence cellular regulation, there is no evidence that this pseudogene encodes a functional protein or serves as a direct therapeutic target. Its parent gene, VKORC1L1, is a paralog of VKORC1, which is the biological target of anticoagulant drugs like warfarin. The pseudogene itself is mostly considered biologically inert, though it may have minor, poorly characterized regulatory or epigenetic roles[2].
