01

Overview

Vitrin (VIT) is a secreted extracellular matrix protein that may promote matrix assembly and cell adhesiveness. It plays a role in neural development, notably in spinal cord formation by regulating the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells. High levels of expression in parts of the brain suggest a likely developmental or maintenance role in the central nervous system. There is no current evidence supporting its use as a drug target, biomarker, or its involvement as a receptor, enzyme, or other canonical druggable protein class. Diseases associated with this gene include certain meningiomas, though functional details for pathogenesis are limited.
