A volatile organic compound (VOC) is any organic (carbon-based) chemical compound that readily evaporates and exists as a gas at normal atmospheric temperatures and pressures. VOCs are a heterogeneous class, including both natural (e.g., terpenes, plant volatiles) and synthetic chemicals (e.g., solvents, fuels, by-products of industrial processes).
