Voltage dependent anion channel 1 pseudogene 13 (VDAC1P13) is a genomic pseudogene related to the voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1) gene family. Pseudogenes are often non-functional DNA sequences derived from ancestral genes by mutation, duplication, or retrotransposition and typically do not encode active proteins. There is no current evidence that VDAC1P13 encodes a protein, participates in cellular functions, or is relevant to therapeutic or biomarker strategies. Most characterized research, functional studies, and drug interactions involving "VDAC1" pertain to the protein-coding VDAC1 gene, not its pseudogene family members.
